After five decades in the manufacturing industry, the Megh Group diversified into agriculture. We had been looking into farming and horticulture opportunities for some time. In early 2012, we purchased the farm and immediately fell in love with every aspect of it; endless green, great blue skies and spectacular landscape. The farm had been running since 1947 by a gentleman called Santa Singh. The Megh Group being a family run business itself, we understood and respected the business Mr. Singh had worked so hard to build. We intended to build on the business he was running in the coming years and wish to be the lead horticultures’ in the Makindu area.
Grow and produce safe, healthy, flavourful vegetables that are enjoyable and sustainable. We work harmoniously with nature and the land to grow quality, specialty vegetables to supply local and international markets. We grow our produce using organic fertilizers and with the least amount of chemicals and pesticides and treat our customers with respect and integrity
In 1947 Mr. Singh purchased a 180 acre farm neighbouring the Chyulu hills in Makueni, Eastern Kenya and named it Makindu Estates. He dedicated all his time to growing good quality fruits and vegetables. We have managed to incorporate the original name while rebranding and have named it Makindu Estate Growers & Horticulture. The abbreviation spelling MEGH.
Makindu has a long rich history of agriculture. From our farm, we look west towards the Chyulu hills and Mt. Kilimanjaro and South towards the Chyulu national park.
In this day and age, it's imperative to know where and how your food is being grown. Fresh, nutritious, and delicious foods have been grown on this farm using sustainable, good practices since 1947. We are committed to supplying the best vegetables from our farm. Our produce is grown in both open fields and a controlled environment without the use of added hormones, antibiotics, or animal by-products. Our soil is amended with organic certified materials to include organic certified nutrients that feed the micro-organisms in the soil which are essential to maximise the nutrient health of our crops which, in turn, benefit your well being. All our vegetables are grown for taste and nutrient value rather than a focus on quantity production.
Majority of our vegetables are exported to Europe. We sell our vegetables at wholesale to various restaurants and retail locations. Our powdered cayenne and turmeric processed at our own facility is exported to the nordic region. Please contact us for further details.
In effort to continually reduce our carbon footprint on earth, we are planning on installing a solar system, a state-of-the-art water reclamation system, and want to regularly use our compost and organic methods to produce nutritionally rich foods. We wish to use good agriculture practices as we grow the business!
